GREAT FALLS, Mont., May 17, 2019 — The Great Falls Americans of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are proud to announce a third player from the 2018-19 squad has committed to play hockey at the same Missouri college.
Forward Sean McLean has signed his letter of commitment to play and continue his education at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri during the fall of 2019. The 6’7” native of Scarborough, Australia played in 25 games for the Americans before a knee injury at the NA3HL Showcase Tournament in Blaine, Minnesota in December sidelined him for the rest of the season.
The Maryville University Saints of head coach John Hogan, who are members of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) just completed their inaugural Division I club hockey season. During the upcoming 2019-20 season, the Missouri college announced they will play in the newly formed Midwest College League.
The Saints will play their home contests at the Maryville University Hockey Center at the Chesterfield SportsComplex located in Chesterfield, Missouri, a community 21 miles from St. Louis. The college offers over 90 programs and has over 9,200 students.
Sean, the left-handed forward, contributed three goals and two assists in 25 appearances before an injury in December forced him to the bench for first-year head coach Greg Sears’ squad.
At the time of his injury, Great Falls had won 21 of their 28 games and finished the regular season with a 38-8-0-1 record and advanced to the NA3HL playoffs where they defeated the Bozeman Ice Dogs in the Frontier Divisional Semi-Finals before falling in the Divisional Finals to the Helena Bighorns.
“Sean is a great person, and has a bright future,” said Great Falls Americans Head Coach and General Manager, Greg Sears. “It is great to see him commit to such a great school. We are very excited for him.”
In April 2019, he signed a contract to play for the New Zealand-based, Dunedin Thunder of the New Zealand Hockey League.
McLean previously played for the Florida Eels, a United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) Elite team, based out of Fort Meyers, Florida and a pair of teams from the Western Australian Super League (WASL), the Perth Sharks and the West Coast Flyers during the 2017-18 season.
Two of his teammates in Great Falls have also signed with Maryville University including forward Jens Juliussen (see press release) and defenseman Nate Simpson (see press release).
