After three seasons in the American West Hockey League (AWHL), the Great Falls Americans will begin a new chapter and a new league with the same teams that were in the AWHL for the 2014-15 season. The North American 3 Hockey League will be the new Tier III Junior Hockey league home for the Americans and the six other teams including the Billings Bulls, Bozeman Ice Dogs, Helena Bighorns, Gillette (WY) Wild, Glacier Nationals and the Yellowstone Quake (Cody, WY).
The 2011-2012 marks the inaugural season for Tier III Jr. A hockey action in Great Falls, MT. It has been eight years since the Americans fielded a Junior A team and the hiatus has left the town and fans hungry for their team to return to the ice.
Great Falls has a very rich hockey tradition and the Americans look to build on that existing legacy. The recently built Great Falls Ice Plex, home to the Americans, will hold 1,800 screaming fans rooting on their hometown squad.
The coaching staff of Jeff Heimel, Dylan Garton, Blake Page, and Josh Frider is looking forward to bringing their track record of winning and successfully developing and moving players on to higher levels of hockey to the Americans organization. The quality coaching staff coupled with the amazing community support from the “Electric” city should make for an outstanding first year of competition for the Great Falls Americans in the North American Hockey League (NA3HL).
