Great Falls defeats Glacier behind Mese and Page

GREAT FALLS, Mont., November 22, 2013 — The Great Falls Americans and the Glacier Nationals battled hard throughout the AWHL game but the Americans were able to score three straight goals in the third period to defeat the Nationals 6-3 in front of 726 fans who came out to the Great Falls Ice Plex to watch a great game.

A trio of Americans helped the Americans grab a 2-0 lead in the first period. Cody Page and Zachary Mese each netted a goal while Mese, Page and Brady Christiaens tacked on assists.

Meanwhile, Corbin Emery took the game into his own hands with a pair of goals to open up the middle period for Glacier. His first goal came at the 7:45 mark as Jackson Schroeder and Brett Fernandez were credited with the assists. Emery would tie the game at 2-2 thanks to assists by Chris Cutshall and John Tesarek. The Americans would end the period on a winning note as Cody Page got the puck by Glacier goaltender Pierre Gustafsson with 3:40 left.

Glacier’s John Tesarek would register a goal to start the final period before the Americans would finish off the Nationals with three straight goals from Steven Goran, Johnathan Carpenter and Aaron McInnis. McInnis would add two assists before scoring an empty net goal with three seconds remaining to lift Great Falls to their 15th victory of the season.

The Americans were led by Cody Page (two goals, one assist) and Zachary Mese and Aaron McInnis each registered one goal and two assists for coach Jeff Heimel’s squad. Meanwhile, Glacier was led by Corbin Emery’s back-to-back goals in the second period and John Tesarek finished the game with a goal and an assist.

The Americans made Glacier goalie Pierre Gustafsson work all night by taking 42 shots while Erik Powell recorded 30 saves in 60 minutes of action for Great Falls.

The victory boosts the Americans to a 15-3 record going into their weekend games in Cody, Wyoming against the Yellowstone Quake (4-11-3).

NEXT CONTEST: Great Falls will be heading to Cody, Wyoming for a pair of games beginning on Saturday, November 23rd (and Sunday, November 24th) when they face the Yellowstone Quake. Saturday’s contest starts at 7:00PM followed by Sunday matinee at 4:00PM.
